North Star Metric

What is a North Star Metric?

A North Star Metric is the one key metric that best captures the core value your product delivers to customers. It's a concept often used in growth hacking to help startups focus on the most critical measure of their success.

The idea is to find a single metric that aligns with your company's mission and that your entire team can work towards. This metric should directly reflect customer value. For example, for a social media platform, the North Star Metric might be "daily active users," while for a SaaS business, it could be "monthly recurring revenue." Identifying and focusing on your North Star Metric helps ensure everyone in the company is working towards the same goal and measuring success in the same way.
