Series A

What is Series A?

Series A funding is a company's first significant round of venture capital financing. At the Series A stage, startups are expected to have a clear business plan and likely a working prototype or minimum viable product (MVP). The funds are typically used to optimize the product or service, hire key team members, and implement a strong go-to-market strategy.

Investors in a Series A round are typically venture capital firms, although angel investors or seed funds may also participate. The amount raised usually ranges from a few million dollars up to $15 million or more, depending on the industry and company's growth potential. In exchange for their investment, Series A investors receive preferred shares in the company, which come with various rights and privileges not shared with common shareholders.
